Jammu & Kashmir's Ramban District Devastated by Flash Floods and Landslides


On April 20, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district experienced catastrophic flash floods and landslides triggered by a severe cloudburst and torrential rains. This natural disaster resulted in significant loss of life, widespread property damage, and major disruptions to transportation and daily life.

Impacts of the flash flood and landslides in Ramban 

-Approximately 200 to 250 houses were damaged or destroyed, with the most severe destruction reported in Ramban town.

-At least three people, including two children, lost their lives when their homes collapsed due to landslides in Bagna village.

-The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), a vital link between Kashmir and the rest of India, was blocked at multiple locations due to landslides, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.

-Heavy rains and hailstorms caused extensive damage to standing crops and horticultural produce in the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions.

-All schools, colleges, and technical institutions in Ramban district were closed on April 21 as a safety measure.
